This is a small complex I designed
recently for a friend. The little blue building in front was
falling down and had considerable rot. It was also an historic
building. The tower in the back was an open frame tower built in
the late 70's or early 80's and there was considerable rot in the
members. The owner wanted to fix the little building in front and
enclose the tower in the back so both could be leased as retail
space. The tower in the back was basically dismantled and a new
tower constructed of the same size and shape. Interior floors
were installed and a spiral stair case. The first photo shows the
skeletal framework and the steel plates. Double bearing posts
were used on 2 sides so there could be a window in the center of the
walls. The little building in the front is now the Mendocino
Chocolate Company and the tower is now a hair stylists studio.
These can be found at the corner of Ukiah & Lansing Streets in
downtown Mendocino, CA.
